Make the Most of the Best Days: Jumu’ah in Dhul Hijjah
Our beloved Prophet PBUH said:
“There are no days on which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.” - Sahih Bukhari
Dhul Hijjah has begun and with it, an opportunity to renew our intentions, deepen our ibadah, and reconnect with Allah SWT.
Today is Jumu’ah, a day already filled with blessings. But when Jumu’ah falls within the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah, the rewards are unmatched.
Here’s how to make this day truly count:
1. Make Sincere Dhikr
Repeat phrases like:
· SubhanAllah
· Alhamdulillah
· La ilaha illa Allah
· Allahu Akbar
Especially on these days, these words carry immense weight.
2. Fast If You Can
The Prophet PBUH used to fast the first 9 days of Dhul Hijjah. If you’re able, seize the reward even one day counts. It's the 3rd day of Dhul Hijjah already but it's not too late to do some sunnah fasts and if you can only do one, plan to fast on the 9th day, the day of Arafat.
3. Give More Charity
Support a cause, help someone in need, these are difficult economic times and more people are in need of help. Every little counts, make intention to give for the sake of Allah alone and bring khayr to others. Small acts of giving are magnified now.
4. Reconnect with the Qur’an
Commit to sitting back after each salah to read and reflect upon the Qur'an. Even if it's just 10 minutes after each salah, that's almost an hour a day. Even if it's just one ayah, reflect on it. Let these days revive your relationship with the Book of Allah SWT.
5. Revive the Sunnah of Jumu’ah
· Ghusl before prayer
· Wearing your best clothes
· Reading Surah Al-Kahf
· Sending abundant salawat on our beloved Prophet PBUH
6. Prepare for Eid with Purpose
Eid ul Adha is not just about the celebration, clothes and gifts. It commemorates sacrifice, obedience, and sharing. Begin preparing your heart now and try to imbibe the lessons from Prophets Ibrahim and Ismail (AS) and revive the true essence of Eid ul Adha.
7. Make Dua with Focus
Especially during the last hour of Jumu’ah. This is a time when dua's are not rejected. And also plan towards doing even more of this on the day of Arafat.
These days will pass just like any other day. But they don’t have to pass without meaning. Let these best 10 days be your turning point, the days where you did more, solely for the sake of Allah and alight your dunya with the akhirah.
May Allah accept your deeds and may these days be light on your soul. Aameen
